Part I: About You
Message from the 1st Young
Thinker
I really want to make a change. I really want to know myself. I really want to be useful. I really need motivation. I keep thinking that encouragement can help me. I really want to study, but things keep dragging me. I sometimes hate myself so much. I really don’t understand about life.
At first, my friend told me about 24 Hours Speaking
Club, and I also saw it. She told me [and asked me] to join, but, at
that time, I felt like I really hated seeing people. Strangely, when it’s about
15 minutes to the deadline, I grabbed my phone, registered quickly. I wished I
could make some changes, and learn more about how people find themselves. It’s
not all about improving speaking skill but more like learning about others and
taking advantage of you, the Club Creator.
Actually, I’ve gone through rough times a lot. I was a
depressed person. I don’t know if I am okay now. Depression is really hard to
cure. It’s been a year that I’ve lived with mental illness. Every day, I keep
feeling down. It all started with study. I’ve always felt like a loser even if
I get these (certificates of appreciation). It started when I was in grade 9. I
did the research about depression, and it said, ‘Mostly depression starts at
the age of 14.’ I had it when I was 14. Let me tell you how it started.
When I was in grade 9, I told myself that I’d study hard
and make a better self. Then, day by day, I only studied at school and paid the
fee of extra classes. Even if I had those classes, I still didn’t pay much
attention. Nevertheless, I still kept getting at the top rank, and that’s not
what I wanted. I had 2 extra-classmates, and both of them studied so hard. They
talked about how much they studied, and I was sitting there, thinking how
useless I was. I thought I wouldn’t get good grade for the national exam. The
useless feeling started at that time.
I always think I am a loser, even now. I
got good grade. I got the highest score in mathematics. It was the highest rank
among the 2 schools–––without trying to study. Clearly, I wish I could study hard.
In contrast, I didn’t. I played a lot. I slept in almost every class. Before
exam, I never studied. I just took quick review and went to the exam room. My
previous school wasn’t Baktuk. It’s a private school. Monthly exam was held for
2 days, and every hour was examination hour. We had 7 hours every day for
school, from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 02:00 PM to 05:00 PM. I took the extra
classes at 06:00 AM, 12:30 PM to 02:00 PM and 07:00 PM. I looked like a super
hard-working student, but I wasn’t. I felt not good about it, even now.
It’s not how successful people achieve something. Most of them work hard, and they deserve it. For me, on the contrary, I didn’t. And I don’t. I keep using social media all the time and having no courage to study. I only study in imagination, not in real life. I see myself studying hard in my brain, but when it is time to study, I use social media instead. I can’t make it.
“I really want to make a change. I really want to know myself. I really want to be useful. I really need motivation.”

Chapter 1:
Scholarship to Study Abroad?
&&&&
Who
Am I?
I
AM a Gift-From-God Reader (GFG Reader), and I AM sent onto this
planet to read just 1 million books out of the 130 million titles in my life
time. Yeah, it’s more than enough, but you don’t need to wait to be ready to do
anything you truly want in life. You just need to do it. You don’t need to wait
for perfect time because you can create your perfect time. You don’t
need to wait for free time because you can create your free time.
You don’t need to wait for commitment because you can create your commitment.
Living
Your Dream NOW
You
don’t need to wait to be ready to apply for scholarship for master degree. The
fact is you have made a decision to follow your dream to study abroad. I have
but one thing to ask you. How about you start living your dream now?
Oftentimes,
people call me “Idol” which, to me, is awkward. Honestly, I don’t want
to become idol of anyone. I don’t want you to consider me anything like this,
either.
I
don’t want you to be the next me, but I want you to be you. The birth of this
book is my life mission to promote self-education through reading.
Of
course, education is a part of our lives, but we are a part of education system
too. I believe that no such school system is bad when the system is not ready.
Thus, you the fruit of this system deserve the chance to pursue greatness of
the full version of education. Go get it, get it fast, and get out.
University
of Virginia was founded by Thomas Jefferson, 3rd U.S. President
& one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. One of his purposes
might have been to revolutionize the higher education of the United States,
changing the face of school system from being controlled by church to the
public.
Any
school system serves its own purpose, so the idea of reforming the system shall
be to change from quantity purpose to quality purpose. I am by no mean a great
scholar, but I perceive education as a mean of life mission, so I take it
personally, and I have prepared to transform any kind of education into a
better state. I believe that anyone who has a strong will to educate others may
share the same personal view, so it’s not that strange to talk about education.
Perhaps, the difference is how or when the term “Education” is applied.
Now
it’s time to come back to you. I care no more about how many times you have told
yourself that you are not ready to apply for scholarship. All I care is you.
I
care about why you want to get master degree. I care about how you start taking
action. I care about you. That’s why I share. I share because I care.
Keep
in mind that this book is only a bridge. You can have a bridge and don’t walk
on it, and then you still don’t reach your destiny, for example. Clearly, you
can read this book or other guidebooks and yet don’t take action, and then you
still don’t live your dream. You don’t live your dream because you are not
ready as you always think. For me, I always believe in you even if you don’t
believe in yourself. I always believe that if you truly take the time to read
this part, that means you want to search for the key for your own pursuit of
education. My message is very simple, and I send it to everybody. No question
about that. The question is who receives it. I communicate with everyone, but
the question is who listens.
I
encourage you to start learning English because English proficiency plays an
important role in your learning at school or outside the school. You know that,
I know that, and everyone knows that. By the way, your biggest problem is time.
You always think you don’t have time to learn English. You always believe you
are too busy to study. I’m not sure if you are busy or lazy. I’m not sure if
this is the reason or excuse. For businessman, reason is the parallel term of
excuse. In my first book “DARA LY Reading Standard,” I have clearly
mentioned that man has relationship with time. Let me ask you this. Do you have
relationship with time or not? Do you always think you are too busy to learn
anything, especially English? Do you believe that time is very important? Time
is money? Time is precious? Do you?
Human
being has relationship with time, but I don’t. Do I need to remind you again
about the businessman? Keep in mind that he gets the term “businessman” because
he is a man of busyness. Have you ever wondered why this kind of man can do a
lot in just 24 hours a day like us? Have you ever wondered why some
businesspeople build such huge business empires while others are working as
employees? Is it because the businessman has broken up relationship with time?
Is it because the businessman has 100 hours a day?
Funny
how it goes, but one joke goes like this: “Oh, the businessman doesn’t break up
with his time, but he breaks up with his girlfriend so that he’ll have more
time to focus on his business.” Give me a break! If this assumption is
logically true, then I suppose all businessmen would have lived alone for the
rest of their lives. Even though some people prefer to live alone, this is not
the case for all.
One
more thing, man has relationship with time, but why can most leaders manage
such hard times? Why did George Washington manage to bring victory to his
country and create the new republic?
Arriving
the planet called Earth in the year 1732 in a newly founded and historically
colonized land, America, George Washington had lived, full by greatness of respect
and dignity. This great man was nationally recognized by his people as the Founding
Father of the new free land which they called the United States of America.
Surprisingly, he was also recognized as one of the world greatest leaders. I
think you may want to find out about what Napoleon Bonaparte had to say about
George Washington, and what admiration that the great Emperor of China had
given to this new earthly leader. Not to mention the Great Britain, former
colonizing mother country of America.
You
can check Google and search for the answers of how George Washington could
manage to bring victory to his country. However, he could manage to bring
victory in hard time not because of excuse––this I can tell you. Raised by a
single mother who had taught George many lessons about honesty and discipline,
he had always respected his mother as well as the lessons he learned. As he
grew to become an adult, military had taught him to be tough and strong.
When
he was 43 years old, he became the Commander in Chief to lead the Continental
Army, the army recruited from 13 different colonies. People from these 13
colonies, by large number, were farmers or planters. Holy Country, his army had
faced daily obstacles, much less by the battles but more from living conditions
in the camp of no enough clothes, no enough food, and almost no shelter. To
make a long story short, his army was, literally, in small number, lacking
support, and inexperienced, but George Washington could lead this army and win
the Revolutionary War against Great Britain’s colonizing. How?
In
such unorganized time, how did George Washington create and lead the new
republic? Election was how he did that. After the America had become a free
country, some people feared that George Washington would crown himself king,
but the great man had no more interest in becoming the king or emperor besides
the army who fought to free his country. George Washington voluntarily resigned
from the military and back to his farm and enjoyed his freedom as a man of his
wife and as a farmer of his country, no more commander in chief because no more
war around.
Washington
was elected by his fellow countrymen to become the 1st President of
the United States. He gained respect from all Americans, and his works inspired
them to follow him as good free people of the free land.
Man
has relationship with time, but why can Facebook steal a lot of time from him?
Why does 1 hour in Facebook look like 10 minutes? And yet why does 1 hour in
class look like 2 hours? Here is a story about my friend. He is back from
school at 8:50 PM and has dinner with crush through Facebook Messenger (Chat),
sometimes with Video Lives of his idols. After dinner, he opens the book, but
he reads Facebook. His book is about Academic Writing, but his actual
writing is Status Post. Supposed he needs to discuss and share with his
assignment teammates, but what he actually does is to Share the song on his Timeline.
Not bad, right?
My
God Sister’s story is similar, in the sense. One eye is in the book, but the
other is in Facebook. At the end, what she actually gets is the song that she
is listening. Oh yeah, everyday conversation with bae is a pill to cure
stress from school. When she failed her exam, she was upset, and pretty much of
a misery. She lost confidence because that was her first time to fail on exam.
In fact, that was just a small failure among the other daily routines she got,
but she just took it personally.
Because
I always consider all God Sisters that I have just like real siblings, I know
this book is for them (The Princesses). The different thing between my God
Sisters and my Biological Sisters is that my Biological Sisters are more
independent. In my book(s) or speeches, I don’t need to mention about my
Biological Sisters and Brother because they share what I have, so my words are
their thoughts. I know they are proud of me as I am proud of them, in all
fairness.
Once
again, I have the permission from my God Sister to share with you her problem
with time. She is in relationship with time, but the third person is Facebook.
By the way, she is the bookworm just like Dara Ly. The difference is that I
don’t have relationship with time.
Another
God Sister, the one I care the most, is very disappointed with herself because
she thinks that she has wasted her life and time a lot, a lot more than the
number of God Sisters that I have, by the way. She wants to study abroad, in
fact, Australia. In January 2017, she told me that she would come to study
English with me in order to prepare for IELTS test. You know what, she did
come, but that was only the first day of the first week. Since then, she has
always been busy at home, at work, or anywhere else. Her time is too short to
study, and that’s what she believes. The reality is that she studies in year 4
now and working at the same time. Sometimes her work requires a lot for
travelling to the provinces at weekend. Therefore, it is logical enough to give
a reason for herself not to be ready to prepare IELTS self-study. I, as a
heart-soft brother, tend to follow her reality. I don’t force her to try harder
for this self-study because I just care about her a lot more, and I know she
knows why I do like that.
She
used to say that her brother only admires, uses soft strategy and cares, but
her brother never blames her, never looks down on her, and never stops
believing in her even if she loses her belief on this scholarship journey
almost completely. In the class, she was an outstanding student, getting number
1, but her brother was a standing-out student who got number 24. Ironically,
her brother is now enjoying his life so much, and yet she is now feeling so
much upset and blaming herself for not ready to do this and that, especially to
go abroad.
She’ll
never know that her brother tries to create a lot of study clubs because of
her. Because he knows there are a lot more people like his sister who need to
prepare themselves for studying abroad, he decides to do something. As a
result, he has founded DARA LY Reading Space that has 11
different Learn And Share Spaces.
He
has founded Cambodia Young Authors 111 that aims to produce 111
book titles by Khmer authors, all are kids from university and high school, to
inform, educate, and inspire young people to start dreaming, believing in
themselves, and taking action.
He
has founded 24 Hours Speaking Club that aims to teach American-English
pronunciation and presentation skills.
He
has founded Young Speakers Club that aims to train people to
become debaters, public speakers, and great communicators.
He
has founded Coach DARA LY that aims to upgrade ordinary people to
become great leaders.
He
has planned to create Young Dreamers Club that aims to bring the
dreams of many people to life and to inspire more people. He has planned to
create Positive Thinkers Club that aims to bring more people to
live positively. Because he knows that more people like his sister need
guidance, inspiration, and care, he is still planning to create more places for
them to grow by themselves for themselves. He just loves to do it to inspire
his sister indirectly, hoping she will be inspired enough to truly believe that
she will definitely get the scholarship to study in Australia by herself in the
near future, but he does hope she must start now, in this minute and this
second, not in the near future.
She
knows her brother is a fast learner, and a super-fast practitioner in anything
he has learned. He grows himself at the speed of light, and nobody can predict
such pace. He grows rapidly under any kind of circumstances, even when his
girlfriend had left him, or when his crush let him down. He grows like nonstop.
Simply, growing is the only thing he knows about himself.
Motivation
There’s
only one thing I’m interested to ask you, and that is you. This chapter didn’t
tell you how to get scholarship, and I knew you wouldn’t get disappointed.
However, this chapter was just a reflection, a question, a memory, a key, or a
clue.
Be
ready, be who you are, be independent, and be responsible for yourself and your
life because you are the only person in charge of your life. By the way, your
crush is not the person in charge of your life.
When
you are committed to self-development and you’re always setting new target to
improve your life, you are always hungry for more. Therefore, never let
yourself be anything less than your expectation because that is not who you are.
It’s
time to learn from the successful people. They are successful because they have
started earlier. Just consider the successful people the books that you are
about to read. However, to read a book, you don’t need time to read, but you
just need feeling. To read a book, you don’t need to be good at English; you
just need to WANT TO read. To read a book, you don’t need to read fast; you
just need to READ. To read a book, you don’t need to understand; you just need
to READ. To read a book, you don’t need to remember; you just need to READ.
Therefore, in order to read the successful people, you just need to READ.
You
are who you are because you choose it. Your major doesn’t choose who you are.
Your age doesn’t choose who you are. Your school doesn’t choose who you are.
Your nationality doesn’t choose who you are. Your religion never will choose
who you are. The scholarship to abroad is just one vehicle among all that you
have chosen. Applying for scholarship? Your choice.
Be
ready.
Be
more than enough.
Be
who you are.
Be
the cloud because the cloud never makes mistake.
Who
Are You?
Are
you an introvert or an extrovert?
Are
you a naturalist or an artificialist?
Are
you a factualist or expressivist?
Are
you a truth seeker or a fault maker?
Are
you a perfectionist or non-perfectionist?
Are
you an idealist or a realist?
Are
you a creative person or a critical one?
Are
you a positive person or a negative one?
Are
you a loyal person or flexible one?
Are you the influencing person or the influenced one?

Chapter 2:
Applying for Job?
&&&&
Who
Am I?
I
AM a Gift-From-God Reader (GFG Reader), and I AM assigned to
search for the Secret Behind Secret of reading. Yeah, it’s more than
mysterious, but you don’t need to wait to be clear enough to begin your
adventure in life. You just need to begin. You don’t need to ask for approval
from others because you can create your own approval. You don’t need to collect
enough information or data before making the decision because you can create
your own reason for your life. You don’t need to search for the key to do that
because you are the key. The door is here, you unlock the door, and you search
for the truth you want to know. You are the key, you are the secret, and you
are the truth.
I
am here, and you are there. Yet I am here with what I am, but you are there
without what you are. Do you think being weak, broken-heart, or dramatic is what
you are made of? Most people don’t get that, but they are blaming themselves
for that reason.
I
am here with who I am, but you are there without who you are. Do you think
being a weak person, a broken-heart loser or a drama lover is who you are made
of?
Do
you?
Let
me tell you a little secret about me. I am a man of dignity and strength with a
big head and a huge heart because I have chosen to be this way. A man of all
affections from others, a man of kindness and, yeah, a man of my own self. Of
course, I had been in a really bad condition in my life–––being misunderstood
by family, friends, classmates, and abandoned by my own crush.
She
broke my heart, and it was bleeding for a very long period of time.
Dramatically, my life was turned upside down in a flash. I wanted to give up on
my life, and I wanted to throw away all kinds of goals or dreams that I’d
always had for years. That was so pitiful, and somebody out there should have
felt my pain. She should have heard my crying soul and seen my tragic life.
Somebody out there should, and she should have come back.
The
more I became dramatically hopeless, the longer I had wasted my lifetime. For
heavenly sake, I realized that the moment of truth had come, and enough was
more than enough. I realized that, regardless of how much I loved someone, the
one person that mattered was Dara Ly. It was me that was more important than
others. I had serious self-reflecting consideration whether to stay in my
dramatic life or to move on. Well, you know the answer, I guess, and that’s why
you know Dara Ly and that’s why you’re reading his book(s).
Comparably,
I have to tell you about the books that I’ve read. Ly Dara was a naïve learner
because he was only willing to stay in his comfort zone even if his result was
dissatisfying. 3 years had passed by; he transformed himself into Dara Ly. He
is the same person with two different versions–––one is in the past and another
one is in the present. In the past, Ly Dara thought that to read 1 book was way
too hard. At the present time, Dara Ly knows that reading 1 million books is very
much enjoyable.
In
this chapter, its title is “Applying for Job?” However, I would like to talk
about learning, career development, job preparation, and my secret weapon,
“reading.”
Learning
is my life, and my life is designed for learning. I have chosen self-education
as an ultimate goal. That’s why I’ve chosen not to apply for scholarship to
study abroad. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t apply for it. I have my own
reason. Since I was young, my family told me not to ask others for anything if
I could have it by myself, so I am doing what I was told to do. In the past, my
personal view about learning could have been wrong, but I don’t live in the
past. I live at the present moment all the time. Simply, I am not greedy
because I always have more than enough. People become greedy because they
always think they don’t have enough.
I
met a gentleman at a place where I was invited to be the guest speaker to share
about the topic “Education,” and he asked me if I got the scholarship
from America. I said “No.” Immediately, I reflected that he respected people
from abroad much more. Not bad. I do respect my uncle who got Ph.D. from Japan,
and I have learned a lot from him, personally and professionally. My way of
speaking was evolved because of him and my family, practically and genetically.
Besides, I do respect a 4-year-old kid who loves learning so much, much more
than the game that her friends are playing, this I can tell you.
In
2015, I graduated from University of Puthisastra (UP). And most of all, I had
continued reading 543 books until April 17, 2016. I never stop learning, not
even a single day. I read the books, listen to the audiobooks and motivational
speeches and read people almost every day. I enjoy learning and sharing with
others about what I’ve read and learned. Thank to Facebook, YouTube and Google
for connecting the world together. Each and every day, I know that the whole
wide world is in my hands, so it’s more accessible and yet effortless. I keep
learning about education, business, people, science and so on. The reading
subjects of my interest are career development, soft skills, leadership,
business, technology, medical science, self-development, English, Education,
American politics and presidents, and general knowledge.
From
June or July 2005 until July 2017, I have been told that English is important
for study and career. I seem to agree. I still need to keep myself updated. I
practice speaking every day, by listening, reading, or sometimes speaking
itself. Not to mention that I spend solo time to write at night.
I
think I would make a good actor if I go into the film industry because Virgo is
born to be the most romantic. However, I’m only interested in educating people,
so forget about it. When I was really young, my mom used to suggest me that I
should become an author. Early in life, without any clue, I wanted to be a
lawyer. In high school, I wanted to be an engineer, a teacher of English, and
then a doctor. Besides, I wanted to turn any profession, I would have chosen,
into business. I once thought of poultry business and opening English school at
the same time. I didn’t know what I loved, I didn’t know much about
requirements to do these jobs. I had no ideas about how to run a business. Let
alone the money to start them.
When
I finished high school, I failed to get selected as a medical student. My
relatives and my mom wanted me to go to IFL, but I refused. Then they suggested
me to go to another university, but I still rejected. My uncle wanted me to go
to ITC, and I couldn’t reject him, so I prepared to take the entrance exam. I
was hoping to fail, and, gladly, I didn’t prepare much––I just prepared 1 week
before the entrance exam. Sadly, I passed. In the meantime, I also took the entrance
exam at University of Puthisastra (UP), and I passed.
The
arrival of the new semester was just around the corner, and I needed to decide
which place to go. I knew that I hated physics and mathematics, so the idea of
going to ITC was like a nightmare to me. In contrast, my parents and family
thought it was an enormous achievement and pride for the family. Holy Physics,
I didn’t want to torture myself. Therefore, I decided to do something against
their will. On the last day to pay the school fee at ITC, I pretended as if I
got stomachache and told them I couldn’t go to pay the school fee. I told them
that I would never be able to study there. They were pretty much disappointed,
and they sent my sister to check. First thing was to check my health condition.
Second thing was to see if she could pay it for me. I then decided to pay by
myself at noon. There, I just couldn’t force myself to study the major I didn’t
want, so I still didn’t pay the school fee. At the end, my attempt was
successful, and I chose another school instead of ITC. University of
Puthisastra (UP) was not the last choice I had, but it’s a perfect one for me
because I learned that it had just opened a new medical faculty. Since then, I
was independent and responsible for my own life. A year later, another uncle
asked me if I could study architecture. Same same but different. In polite act,
I needed to spend sometimes to check it out. Eventually, I disappointed him
once again. It was common for me, I could make my family upset sometimes if it
was for my own life or goal, and I didn’t mind doing that. My father supported
me doubtlessly, so I was confident enough to be more independent and more
responsible for my life.
I
believe the law of attraction. I did want to study at medical school, and it
turned out that my crush was a medical student. I didn’t prefer IFL that much,
and yet my ex-girlfriend studied at IFL. I wanted to become a doctor because I
wanted to help others, and now I am helping more than I could think of––by
being an educator. My mom used to suggest me to become an author, and now this
is my 2nd book that I have written. Moreover, I even create a lot
more authors. I used to think about running my own business at the very young
age, and now I am the CEO of my own company. Isn’t it because of the law of
attraction?
In
career development, you have prepared in schools for over 16 years, and yet you
still think you are not capable enough. Let me tell you something that people
take for granted. We become what we think about. Think you are weak, incapable,
or stupid, and you’ll become like that. Think you are strong, capable, or
smart, and you’ll become like that. Think you only need to study and go back
home, and then your reality will obey your thought. Think you need to earn
practical experience outside the class, and then you’ll meet more outstanding
people on the street.
Think
your communication skills are terrible, and then you’ll never talk to anyone.
Think you need to improve your communication skills, and then you’ll talk to
everyone every time and everywhere possible.
You
become what you think about all day long. However, you are not going to become
your crush, just so you understand. Ok? I’m kidding. The truth is we tend to
get upset a lot whenever we’ve seen our friends or classmates accomplishing
something. For example, last time, when I checked Facebook and saw a friend of
mine going abroad, I was feeling upset because I couldn’t read and finish book
on time as I planned. Later on, I realized that exchange program didn’t have
anything to do with me because the last thing I wanted to do was to go abroad.
I couldn’t care less. My life turned to be better, and I enjoyed myself much
more. Now I even create a program for others to go to Singapore instead of me.
Law of attraction? Well, maybe.
My
point is that you don’t need to try to pray for the failure of your friends
because it won’t have anything to do with you at all. Not at all. And never
will. You think that if your friend fails, then you’ll be better than him or
her? What’s the point of comparing yourself with your friend? Will he or she
live with you forever? I don’t think so. I’m not going any further at this
point, but perhaps, the next point, I will show you. Come, follow me, and I’ll
show you.
Primary
education has prepared you to be a good kid. Secondary education helps make
sure you become a good citizen. Higher education will do everything to push you
to the professional level. These are your vehicles for career development. Once
again, you can have Zoomer-X but never ride it, and then you still stay at the
same place. Undeniably, people tend to wait. For me, I am lazy enough to wait. As
a student, I was lazy enough to wait until my English was fluent enough to read
a book. I then joined as member of UP Reading Club. I was lazy enough to wait
until my speaking skill was good enough to speak, and then I joined as member
of UP Debate Club. I was lazy enough to wait for my friends to join my
self-study group, so I joined as many groups as possible, even the groups of the
same topic. Interestingly, in my debate club, one topic was being debated. It
was restated that student should join extra-curricular activities. That
literally meant I, as a student, should join debate or reading club. Thanks
God, I was doing the right thing. One year after that, my presentation skills
were dramatically improved. My team and I often got top score in any
presentation in the class, as a result. I think it’s the reason why I really
love assignment and presentation. Of course, I didn’t really like exam, quiz or
homework at all.
As
a year-two student, I got my first experience on the professional level in
terms of internship. Thankfully, debate helped me a lot at that time. I got the
first job interview ever in my life, and I used the debating skills. The first
few days at workplace, I still felt nervous. I got the first weekly meeting
with my boss and other staff. I texted message to my crush, and I told her that
I was very nervous. She replied me, saying that I could do it because I had
done this kind of meeting at debate club all the time. She was right, and she
did remind me about debating skills. As predictable as you could guess, I used
my debating skills during the meeting again. By the way, I was the most
improved member at debate club, so my time at workplace was not something that
just happened for the first time. I improved rapidly at workplace. I was
promoted 5 months after that. I still believed I needed to learn more. You
could see the connection between debate club and reading that could transform
me from an ordinary guy into a better person. My passion was really great even
if I was still young. My young age didn’t stand a chance to stop me from
transformation.
The
truth had come when I needed to decide to stay or to move on to the next level.
I had 2 options to choose at that time. First, should I continue working there to
prepare for scholarship? Second, should I quit the job and start my own small
business? I asked myself all the time if I was too young to start a business.
Sometimes I asked myself whether I started thinking about business too late. I
discussed with my crush a lot about this. She was my best friend and best
teammate, and we shared a lot of things that not many people would know about
us. I guess she left me because I used to share our stories with the others.
I
talked with her about life, future, and what to do to reach the dream. I
decided to quit the job and start taking action for business venture. Here are
my actions tracked back from 2013 – 2017:
The
1st action was to plan.
The
2nd action was to learn.
The
3rd action was to apply.
The
4th action was to fix.
The
5th action was to reapply.
The
6th action was to learn more.
The
7th action was to go back to work.
The
8th action was to quit the job, 44 days later.
The
9th action was to form business team again.
The
10th action was to break the team again.
The
11th action was to work alone.
The
12th action was to read.
The
13th action was to plan to give up after crush had left without a
word.
The
14th action was to be my own man, and to continue some unfinished
businesses.
Now
I am my own man. Now you see the power of love. Keep in mind that anything that
doesn’t kill you will make you stronger. Nevertheless, the power of love can
inspire you, but it can kill you too. It depends on how you will use this great
power. It’s just like the water and fire. The water can carry you through the
river, but it can kill you too if you drown. The fire can cook food for you,
but it can cook you too.
Now
I know how to use the power of love to inspire myself and others to live
positively and to live with hope. Girl, I can tell you that I love you so much,
and I can also tell you that I love myself so much more. Believe it or not, I
am my own man. I am the diamond, and the diamond always shines. I know that if
I want to shine like diamond, I need to get cut like diamond. I know when time
comes, this diamond will be in the hand of a good girl. But I don’t know who.
All I know is that I don’t know.
You
may think, “The hell with it! Does it have anything to do with me? I read this
chapter because I just want to know how to get a job. I just need a job.”
Oh
yeah, heavenly yes, it has a lot to do with you and with who you love. It has a
lot more to do with what you truly love. I am talking about the power of love. I
know you know, but you just don’t take this for real. You take it for granted.
For me, I take it seriously, and it’s my personal business. I share because I
care.
I’m
a teacher of teachers, but I never want them to believe me. I just want them to
believe in themselves. You’re still with me? Good, then please do not believe
me. I just want you to believe in yourself. Let consider all I said above a
form of cloud that comes across your imagination. Remember or not, I don’t care.
All I care is you.
I
care about two types of people. People who want to learn and people who want to
learn more. If you think you have learned enough and don’t want to learn anymore,
then I suggest you to read other books, instead of wasting your time with “Book
And Crush.”
First
of all, I want to share this chapter with my members of DARA LY Reading
Space. Specifically, members of Learn And Share Career Goal,
I want to open a new page for you. It is time you must take action now. You
should start planning and taking action after reading the book. When you study
at grade 9, you could be carefree and forget about what may go after national
examination. When you get into grade 10 and then 11, you enjoy life. Time flies
fast, and you are the senior in high school. You need to prepare for 12th
grade national examination again. Thank God, you pass. Then you tend to be
carefree once again. However, your mom and dad ask you what you want to study.
Oh yeah, you are luckier than your friend because she needs to take the major
her parents want her to study. Her life is a complete closed box. You are
luckier than her because your box is open. Anyway, let me tell you again. You
can have a box that is open, but if you don’t think outside of the box, then
you are still in the box. Who cares?
Now
you are thinking about the major you want to study. Stressful, isn’t it? It
ain’t too much stressful at all.
First
of all, you just need to spend some time to do self-reflection. Reflect about
what you love. Reflect about what you hate. In the end, you’ll find out about
your passion. Passion is a combination between love and hate. Let’s take me as example.
I hate getting up early, I hate going to work late, I hate anything to do with
number, I hate hot weather, and I hate riding motorbike a lot. I love long
sleep, I love working from home, I love being my own boss, I love flexible
time, I love talking with people, and I love helping people if they don’t request,
I love anything to do with reading, and I love being respected. As a result, I
have found my passion; my passion is being an educator. Now I am the CEO of LAS-Presidents,
I have my own learning spaces at my home, so I don’t need to go outside home.
Besides, I am the Chairman of Cambodia Young Authors, and I enjoy
reading and helping more young people to write their own books. Currently, I
help empower a young author Mr. Bin Yan, a guy who is famously known by others
for his dream to be a prime minister of Cambodia. His first book is “Win
Fate, Create Miracle.”
I
met a kid from high school, grade 9 to be exact. She told me that she wanted to
write a book because she loved reading novel, and she wanted to make her
grandma proud of her. She was excited when she knew that I was to launch Cambodia
Young Authors that would help her and other young authors to publish
their books. She’s been so much busy with her studies. She is too young to be
independent from her family, financially and generally. However, she is
mentally independent, and her talent is not questionable. I knew from the
beginning that her book is a real inspiration for other kids to wake up and
live their dream from young age. My God Sister is a friend of hers, and she
believes the same thing.
My sister believes
that age doesn’t count when it comes to dream. We can live our dream. My God
Sister is a smart kid from grade 10 with solid background of volunteerism,
training, and social work participation. Now she is just 14 years old, and I
consider her my Twin Sister, not because of physical appearance, of course. I’m
sure you would definitely say that she looks a lot more charming than me.
However, we both have become twins because we share common belief. We believe
that young people or old people can do the same thing at the same time if we
have the right mental attitude.
Another
God Sister is another bookish adventurer. Surely enough, I’ll be celebrating
her high school achievement in this August, and I can’t wait to ask her to
write her own book as well. She’ll make a great author just like her brother, I
know. She told me that she wants to improve the lives of other people. She had
experienced in bad relationships, and learned from them the hard way, but it
didn’t bother that much since she was doing just fine. She took the chance to
conduct the first workshop at her school to inspire young students like her to
study harder and to think positively. It’s interesting to me that almost all of
my God Sisters are outstanding students when I am a standing-out student.
That’s funny.
Similarly,
God just gave me another one God Sister, a girl of determination with hard
work. I believe that people studying at Cambodia ASEAN International Institute
must have known or seen her face at the school campus. However, I’m lazy enough
to mention her name here. Emotional as her nature creates, this little sister
is born cute and lovely, but, yeah, I love her so heartily as a sister. She
still deserves an unchangeable place in my mind. I know she will become a young
author as well.
Her
schoolmate is the 15th God Sister of mine. Now you see that, right?
You see that Dara Ly has a big heart. God created him to have a big heart to
have more God Sisters, and his parents give him birth because they want him to
love everyone just like family. My parents are delightful, for their son has
had many God Sisters.
Another
God Sister of mine studies at RULE. It’s been quite a long time that I’ve never
come into contact with her. I hope she is doing just fine. She used to tell me
that she wanted to have her own bookstore and coffee shop. I’ll make her dream
come true on day one.
The
next new rising stars (authors) are yet to come. I hope you are one of them.
Join us if you want to celebrate your life and the lives of other young
learners like us. Join us if you want to be part of this family. We open the
door for you to join, to start living your dream, and to inspire other young
people like us.
What
is your passion? Can you think about what you love and what you hate?
You
know, some people would say, “Oh, I don’t know what I love, but I know who I
love.”
And
if I have the chance to talk back, I would say, “Oh, ok, as long as it is not
Dara Ly.”
What
is your passion? What do you love? What do you hate? What kind of life do you WANT
TO be? And what kind of life do you HAVE TO be? What kind of dream
can your parents agree with you? And what kind of dream that you are ready and
willing to die for it?
Here
are from Dara Ly:
-
My Passion: Education
-
What I love: Sleeping &
Reading
-
What I hate: Travelling
-
Life I WANT TO Be: Life with
FREEDOM & without DEADLINE
-
Life I HAVE TO Be: (None)

Here
are similar questions asked by other people:
What
do you want to be in the future?
Did
you define yourself yet?
What
kind of people do you dislike?
What
do you see yourself in the next 10 years?
What
is your plan to reach your goal?
What
do your parents want you to be?
What
is your dream?
My
crush was a pharmacist, but that major was not what she truly loved. But her
parents loved this so much. I got to know a friend of mine who took a major in
dentistry because she had to fulfill her parents’ wish. There’re many more
cases like these. Basically, they choose the major based on what others want
them to choose, which is sad to know. If they are fortunate enough, then they
may like that chosen major later on. How about those who only realize that this
is a dead-end major? How about those who dislike blood, but are forced to study
medicine?
Let
me tell you about a girl who had been told by her mom that she should not
continue her study at university. “You should,” her mom said “not study
anymore. Just get a job.” She added, “Why do you need to study the Japanese
language? Studying and going back home late at night is not safe for you.” She
listened to her mom, but she didn’t stop her dream to pursue higher education.
She changed the way I thought about a girl. All girls are strong-minded and
confident. Many highly confident girls out there are waiting for the right
moment to become superwomen. I have to tell you that she is in the list. She is
the future of great woman leader and woman author, I know. She is now working
to save money to study at Panhasastra University of Cambodia (PUC). It took her
for about 3 years, and she almost reaches her destiny. She has a dream to
graduate and wear a graduation uniform. I was so surprised when she told me
about her dream because I always took it for granted.
I
worked with readers, and I know that readers think a lot, reflect a lot and
have a lot of creative ideas. More importantly, reader leads, and leader reads.
Of course, you still can lead if you are not a book lover just yet. Anyway, I’m
sure you will become like one, soon.
Reader
leads; leader reads. At workplace, I’m not sure if your boss will like you or
not if you are a slow-motion employee. For me, I only work with the best and
the fastest. Every time I start any project, I choose to work with readers
before anyone else. Readers lead, and leaders read, so I don’t need to train
them to lead others. They know by themselves. Bill Gate prefers to work with
the lazy people, but I prefer to work with lazy readers because it’ll save me a
lot of time. You really want to know the truth, don’t you? I’ll show you at the
end of this book. Come with me; I’ll show you.
I
am a reader, and I know that book is my Apollo that brings me to the moon. Book
is my business plan. Book is a boat that carries me from one side of the river
to the other. Book is my brain food. Book is the key to the whole universe.
Book is my army to conquer the space at the Information Age. Some people would
say, “Oh, book is my sleeping pill, period.”
In
my 1st baby book “DARA LY Reading Standard,” I did mention
about the 6 levels of readers. They are:
-
Level 0-A: Zero A
(Never finished a book in life)
-
Level 0-B: Zero B
(Spend more than 7 days to finish a book)
-
Level 1: Dependent Readers
(Read 1 book a week)
-
Level 2: Independent Readers
(Read 1 book a day)
-
Level 3: Reading Experts
(Read 7 books a day)
-
Level 4: Gift-From-God Readers
(GFG Readers).
