EVERY TIME I LOOK THE CLOCK ON THE WALL OF MY HOUSE- I see the time runs supper fast, faster than the sound of airplanes or spaceships launching to another planet. It is faster than the wave of the ocean and birds that fly. When I look to the watch on my arm, I see the seconds, minutes and hours jump so quickly.
Every
night, I look to the stars. The moon rises and sets, it is great in the dark
sky, but it makes me cry? Why do I cry? Because I miss all the things in my
childhood life- which I cannot bring back and get them back. I have all the
memories that I used to do in the past, such as taking a bath by the lake near
my house, trekking with dogs in the forest, finding cricket and frogs to eat
along the Mekong River side, finding flowers and mushrooms in the jungle with
my grandma, playing with the toy cars that I made out of a tree near my rice
field cottage.
I
cut that tree and my father hit me and I ran away with my friends. I miss when
I was walking in the jungle alone and looked around at the trees and the sky. I
always like the birds flying. I miss my mom holding my body, finding my lice on
my head, and she kissing me. I miss my friends who used to go to jungle
together and threw the flowers at each other and we smiled and laughed
together. I miss the time that I came to find the snails in the streams,
ditches, and rivers. I remember when I climbed up the tree, and I fell down and
got injured. I still get the scar from the wound now because I did not listen
to my big sisters that it was slippery during the rainy time. I remember too,
the time I paddled and rowed the boat across Mekong River, and there was a big
storm and it hit me and my boat sank into the deep Mekong River. I was alone,
but luckily I could swim well, so I was safe. I miss to the time when I rode
the old bicycle to study from my jungle planation through the silent deep
jungle and grave-yards. I saw many wild animals, but now the people have
destroyed them all.
I
miss to the time that I and my big brothers and sisters had no food to eat. We
came to dig the wild potatoes to eat, but unluckily we got poisoned which
almost killed us all. I miss to the time that my second biggest brother brought
many watermelons for us while we had no food to eat. I miss to the stream
behind my house where I made Thanos (Bamboo Dam) to catch the fish. I miss the
jungle fields where my other friends in my village and I took the cows and
buffalos to eat the grasses there. We blew on the leaves and it sounded like
the opera music. I miss everything, but I really cannot go back now, I am grown
up. Time really has brought me here. Time precisely has changed me. Time does
not wait for anyone. It has no patience to wait for you, but most people ignore
the time and do not hold it tightly.
This
is time. What is time? Based on Cambridge Dictionary, “Time is the existence
that measures minutes, days and years.”
Basically,
time is not just only an hour, a minute or a second, but all of them. It is
like the iceberg melting due to the heat. Time waits for no one. While the
spaceship is launching, it is losing time somehow as well.
Definitely,
time is everything in life. Time is the master, father, mother and friend of
the present and the future. Time can actually limit your success or failure if
you cannot catch it or use it well. Certainly, never expect future success if
you cannot manage and control your time properly.
I’ve
seen many people who have ended up with regret and hopelessness when they got
old because while they were young, they did not use time accurately-they wasted
it with bad things. Some people have been involved in too much gambling and
alcoholic drinking; they did not seek for a better life. They sometimes sold
their houses and land due to gambling debt and sometimes got divorced due to
the debt, and still continued to waste it. They did not know that time is their
lives. Obviously, if you are investing in gambling, I bet you will never be the
champion because gambling will never let you be the champion. So, never waste
your time with that. However, everyone has bad experiences of wasting time,
even I myself. Wasting time is not only about playing games too much, but
hanging out with bad friends, this is the wrong choice as well. The richest man
in the United States, Warren Buffet said, “If you want to be rich, find a buddy
who likes talking about business, not useless stuff.”
Therefore,
this means that choosing the people you walk with is a matter of your success
or failure, too. Back to me, I used to waste my time by not finding things to
develop myself when I was an adult, such as hanging out with friends too much;
however, after that I realized that hanging out too much had caused me to delay
on my working duties, school assignments and so I failed and my study went
backward compared to my classmates. Moreover, when I was a kid, I spent too
much time looking after cows and buffaloes for others so I started to go to
primary school too late at the age of 10 years old, while others normally
started primary school at the age of 5 or 6 years old in Cambodia. Nevertheless,
I’m not disappointed since I had no parents like others to support or buy study
materials for me, there weren’t any schools there in my village at that time. But
because of this now I do not want any of you who have parents or you can afford
to go to school, start too late like me. Try to do everything on time and at
the right time-do not wait for time because the waits for no men. Time never
waits you, only you who are waiting,
while everything has moved so quickly. Remind yourself every day that you must
do something rightly and on time-never be carelessly.
Don’t
say or think that yo get much time now because time marched on. Have you ever
thought about being an adult when you were a kid before? As for me, I used to
think that and now I am grown up and wish to go back to the kid again, but will
never let me go back. It sounds very funny, but it is true. We are all aging
nothing will last long. Have you ever though that you are going to be like this
and like that in the future? Have you ever drawn your own future to be who you
are today? For me, I have thought and drawn my future when I was a kid to be
who I am today. And I become as I am today because I wished to be a writer.
However, my wish is not yet ended, it is continuously changing. I want to be a
Prime Minister of Cambodia in the future. Can I do it? Well, let’s wait and
see! We cannot estimate that I can or I cannot, only time can tell when we
prepare something well. Remember that, only those who try hard with strategic
plans and control time well will achieve their goals and wishes in the future.
If I do not catch the time well, I will not be able to achieve my goals as the
Prime Minister. You can achieve everything if you can catch and use the time
properly. Some people have wasted time until they get short on time to do it,
then, how can they get success? No doubt about that, they remain in failure and
slow in progress.
I
have spent my time properly and I have seen the fruitfulness since then. What
about you? How are you going to spend your time? How are you going to hold and
catch your golden time nicely.
Some
people are wasting time or just focus much on working and earning money, but
forget to take care and look after of their health-until one day they find they
have a serious illness which cannot be cured. How are you going to spend your
money while you are only having a short time to live? Critically, most people
put more importance on money than health, and put their status higher than
their dignity, virtue and morality. They feel anxious and furious about every
day-this has caused health problems. The angrier you are, the more you are sad.
So be happy and smile-no matter how difficult your life is. You must be careful
not to forget your time because time never forgets you. Consequently, use your
time to develop and improve your health, your wisdom, your ability, morality
and dignity-not being well known.
